I freely admit that memories of a few of these titles are very vague, but you've got me wanting to invest in one of those giant DVD box sets of A&C one of these days. Like you, just thinking of them brings me back to a simpler time. Again, thanks for returning to pass these thoughts along.

"The line is busy."Mr. Peel aka Peter Avellinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553482286909862975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-88997618989192077972009-04-07T19:44:00.000-07:002009-04-07T19:44:00.000-07:00Well, it took longer than anticipated to return. ...Well, it took longer than anticipated to return. That's because I'm busier NOW than I was when I originally commented! Nevertheless, sorry for the delay!

Right then, Sr. peel - let's have a go here. VERY TOUGH to do this.

1) A and C meet Frankenstein: For all the obvious reasons... (hey, it's my fave film of all-time!)

2) The Time of Their Lives: I love the A&C films when Bud and Lou break away from their traditional "buddies" routine (Little Giant from the previous year comes to mind also). It's such a great little film. I love Bud walking around, smoking that cigarette, and repeating "Be Calm, Be reasonable." And, of course, Gale Sondergaard in anything is always welcome.

3) Who Done It? Suffice it to say, as you've already captured what I love about this film - it's a wonderful snap-shot of the world of live radio drama. Sure, it's all hyper-exaggerated, but an entertaining way to show young-ins nowadays what it was all-about. It's a CLASSIC.

4) Hold That Ghost. Lovely art-direction, tight script, classic routines (re-done many times they were so good), a GREAT supporting cast - killer animated titles and the first "spooky" film of their career. What else is there to say?

5) Five was super hard to pick. Mexican Hayride? Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? In Society? Well, as much as I love those (and the war efforts too) I have to go with "Lost in Alaska" - mainly for its re-watchability. I like the music numbers, I like the story, I like the feel of it. The routines are great (love the one where Bud keeps changing the clock on Lou to wake him constantly shile Bud sleeps for hours). It's just a fun and joyous occasion every time I throw it in.

Lastly, NOSTALGIA is the key here - I watched all of their films in the early and mid 70s on Sunday mornings. A happy time for me - so I am not an objective viewer here... I LOVE THESE GUYS. In fact, my Mom met Bud Abbott in 1951 on the S.S. United States sailing for England - got his autographs and all!

Honorable Mention goes to:

6) - Rio Rita (mainly for Anne Gwynne) - what can I say, when I love a gal, I love a gal. There are other films I place higher than this - but, ya know, Anne Gwynne and all.

I speak for MANY when I say that Sardine Liquer is one of the finest places to read quality analysis of cinema related topics. Thanks for that.

And, always remember. Alexander - TWO - TWOOO - TWO - TWOOO!

Best
ChickChick Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01237639618482587471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-11024851977150088412008-12-08T22:51:00.000-08:002008-12-08T22:51:00.000-08:00Chick--I look forward to that return. Glad to read that you liked the post, that's great of you to say.Mr. Peel aka Peter Avellinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553482286909862975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-71147556058150281992008-12-07T20:36:00.000-08:002008-12-07T20:36:00.000-08:00When this semester is over allow me to more fully ...When this semester is over allow me to more fully comment on this wonderful (as usual) post. A & C are my all-time favorite comedy team. I constantly refer to my favorite movie of all time being the (perfectly predicted in your post) Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (it was the topic of my first blog post ever). I'll have to give some thought to second favorite but WHO DONE IT is in the top 5 EASILY. At any rate Mr. Peel, much grading to be done - like MacArthur, I WILL RETURN...Chick Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01237639618482587471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-59203535326569622012008-11-29T19:24:00.000-08:002008-11-29T19:24:00.000-08:00I definitely remember BUCK PRIVATES and MEET THE M...I definitely remember BUCK PRIVATES and MEET THE MUMMY but can't recall a thing about AFRICA SCREAMS. Wait, wasn't Shemp in that too? OK, Africa Screams.Beveridge D. Spenserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12236771609113409521noreply@blogger.com
