Awesome...I just saw this and now found your review. Awesomely done, you're a service to the monster community.

However, I'm with Captain Terrific, in that I think the pros outweigh the bad, especially if you consider this in light of its era, which was rife with studio big budget horror films still chasing JAWS jackpots. ALIEN came out around the same time and kind of shifted things in a new direction, but PROPHECY is more like ORCA, a movie that's hilarious and sad all at the same time. PROPHECY's blend of 70s docu method acting and bodies flying madly in all directions, heads popping off, etc., what's not to love? And I loved that the score is so off, almost ironic in some scens. Everyone here is just laughing hysterically at the sleeping bag scene but I don't think it's particularly hilarious - it's just sad. To go from BLACK SUNDAY to PROPHECY - how the mighty did fall!Captain Terrificnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-78567583678880002682009-07-26T20:30:21.201-07:002009-07-26T20:30:21.201-07:00I think I underestimated how much people love that...I think I underestimated how much people love that sleeping bag scene. Maybe everyone's just been keeping it to themselves all these years. It was just great to see it on the big screen. What an odd movie. And I STILL haven't written about Frankenheimer's BLACK SUNDAY. I don't know why.Mr. Peel aka Peter Avellinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553482286909862975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-1676669054661360142009-07-24T12:04:42.511-07:002009-07-24T12:04:42.511-07:00I love this movie. The score is unintentionally hilarious, especially during the aftermath of the first attack. But I love the monster.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-66087804004382094382009-07-23T11:14:02.200-07:002009-07-23T11:14:02.200-07:00Oh, I haven't seen this movie in ages! This one as a whole didn't make the cut, except for that scene...

Thanks, Mr. Peel and Anon, for the review and the badmovie site.le0pard13https://www.blogger.com/profile/09421175808461787862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-38602826289808943592009-07-23T11:08:38.997-07:002009-07-23T11:08:38.997-07:00I'm not going to make excuses for Frankenheime...I'm not going to make excuses for Frankenheimer, he was brilliant filmmaker. Though, HE did acknowledge that his alcoholism effected his work during this period. But a drunk Frankenheimer delivered an on par result to a sober Arthur Hiller's NIGHTWING, two films which share similar themes and problems. Can we use this example to measure between a master and a hack?

These post-JAWS major studio horror movies are watchable simply because they DO take the subject matter seriously. Virtually only John Sayles-scripted low budgeters of the time were able to infuse humor that did not distract from the horrors at hand.

As far as Leonard Rosenman scores go, BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES is great!Captain Terrificnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-84091281466537442662009-07-23T07:32:03.824-07:002009-07-23T07:32:03.824-07:00This is a movie that I will watch when ever it is ...This is a movie that I will watch when ever it is on. You are not kidding that the main cast is trying to sell it, Foxworth does this monologue type thing in the cabin in the first part of the movie that you know he thought would get him some type of notice.

For those of you unfamiliar with the famous first attack scene, it must be seen. http://www.badmovies.org/ has it in their review at the bottom.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
