Or maybe the Film Forum back there in NY would show it sooner or later. I've never seen BITTER HARVEST so I'll keep my eye out for that one. I am desperate to see "The Legend of Lylah Clare," and have not been able to get my hands on it. I am curious how it would work in a Double Feature with Janet Munro in "Bitter Harvest!"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-71595953350017754252010-03-13T07:45:28.968-08:002010-03-13T07:45:28.968-08:00Robert H.,

Didn't catch all of it, but it appeared to be an extremely black comedy about marriage; sort of a precursor to a spate of marriage "comedies" in the late 70's - early 80's like THE LAST MARRIED COUPLE IN AMERICA, and others whose titles I can't remember at the moment.

Jean Simmons was fascinating (I believe she was nominated for the role), but I just wasn't able to stick with it. It does, however, have Tina Louise in a supporting role - and she CURSES! There are definitely some unusual oddball titles from that period that would be worth seeing again. I'm not familiar with THE HAPPY ENDING so I'll have to keep my eye out for that one. TCM is where I was able to see LYLAH CLARE again and for some reason I'd still be willing to see it again in a theater.

Beveridge--

That really means a lot. LYLAH CLARE has played on TCM and I think I may have DVD-R of it laying around somewhere.

I would like to see a retrospective of early MPAA ratings-era films directed by members of the old guard. Many of these are rarely screened and more often than not regarded as "interesting failures. Along with LYLAH CLARE, Richard Brooks' THE HAPPY ENDING is one I've long been curious about.Ned Merrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15436251586131278302noreply@blogger.com
