The film really does have more resonance now!

J.D.--

I don't watch Simon Baker's show but when I think of him it strikes me that when he's hanging at the bar in a fancy hotel waiting for Anne Hathaway in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA he fits right in--in this film, even if he does seem engaged with the material, not so much. Russell? Well, yeah, that does bring Carpenter to mind but I hear what you're saying. Anyway, good to hear that you're a fan of it for similar reasons! I'm glad I too another look at it and thanks for the comment!Mr. Peel aka Peter Avellinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553482286909862975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-65739111572738200102011-11-03T11:45:32.171-07:002011-11-03T11:45:32.171-07:00I'm glad you pointed out the Hawksian vibe of ...I'm glad you pointed out the Hawksian vibe of this film as I remember first seeing this thinking about how much it reminded me of a John Carpenter film more than a Romero one and that was because of the Hawks effect.

I really like this film. Sure, it doesn't resonate like Romero's first three zombie films but the world he presents in LAND is so rich and detailed that ever time I watch it I end up looking at little details in the background or that are seen oh-so briefly.

I think that I would've recast the Simon Baker role with someone with more presence, more charisma. Man, Kurt Russell would've been great but again, I'm thinking about Carpenter. Still, it would've been sweet.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-60926015524564490322011-11-01T12:17:29.884-07:002011-11-01T12:17:29.884-07:00Great look at this one, Mr. Peel. Certainly, the post-financial meltdown very much associated with the '00s perhaps even more so than 9/11 (I'm finishing Michael Lewis' 'The Big Short' for my scary season read and zombies cannibalizing the living fits oh so well with this). Well done. Thanks.le0pard13https://www.blogger.com/profile/09421175808461787862noreply@blogger.com
