Hopefully I'll be able to do something about this at some point and another box set would be very welcome.

Adam--

Not on DVD. Not on video. Not on nuthin'! I first saw it at a Cinematheque screening where it was paired with HOUSE OF BAMBOO and, yes, it's turned up on TCM a few times. And it's going to be showing at the Film Forum in NY on Sunday 4/18! But I don't think any of us are going to that. I have to believe that there'll be a disc release sooner or later. I hope.Mr. Peel aka Peter Avellinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553482286909862975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-89866345976723152832010-04-15T07:34:06.074-07:002010-04-15T07:34:06.074-07:00Is this really not on DVD? I've wanted to see it for years, but always miss it when it pops up on TCM.

I remember being taught the -30- thing in high school, and the explanation was because that's how it's always been done.Adam Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11968051066147134504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-69938794452805147102010-04-14T20:51:58.119-07:002010-04-14T20:51:58.119-07:00I'm with you Peter and PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET ...I'm with you Peter and PICKUP ON SOUTH STREET being my favorite Fuller film as well. I'd put PARK ROW and STEEL HELMET next, but I must admit that WHITE DOG is really growing in my estimation since I saw it at the Egyptian years ago and now with its dvd release. I actually dig CHINA GATE pretty good too, would love to see another Sam Fuller Collection from Sony or Criterion/Eclipse that included that film and VERBOTEN!Rupert Pupkinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12198415905923278482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2118574901486983093.post-18182820787542206032010-04-14T13:55:00.476-07:002010-04-14T13:55:00.476-07:00J.D. --

Anyway, that's why I wish this film were more widely available out there--it SHOULD be shown in journalism classes! Thanks very much!

TLRHB--

Hey Larry, there you are! I am certainly in complete agreement with you on its merits. I would say that it is one of if not THE best films about newspapers made by someone who lived it. As a result, there is an incredible feeling of authenticity of every frame making me wish that this was required viewing in journalism classes if only for a historical perspective.

I also dig the cigar-chomping Gene Evans in this film. He and Fuller must've really gotten along like gangbusters as the director got a fantastic performance from in the aforementioned STEEL HELMET.

Another excellent review, my friend.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.com
